Once the meal is finished, the Clean-Up Zone comes into play. This zone will house the main sink and the dishwasher. Ideally there should be 2′ of counter space on either side of the sink to accommodate clean up activities.
This is also the ideal place to locate recycling and trash containers along with kitchen cleaners and cleaning utensils. Since function dictates that items should be stored at “first use”, tea towels and dish clothes would be stored in this zone.
